DIVISION DIRECTOR CHECKLIST

Being a Division Director is another way to extend yourself as a leader. As a Division Director, you oversee the areas within your division, giving the Area Directors guidance and support where needed.  The best guide for being a Division Director can be found in the District Leadership Handbook which is given to District leaders at the start of this year.

If you have previously served as a Club President, and after completing your time as a Division Director, it’s also possible to nominate for one of the top three roles in the District – District Director, Program Quality Director and Club Growth Director.

01

Conduct at least two Division Council meetings each year

The attendees are the Area Directors in your division. At these meetings, discuss goals with the area directors, and help them with any issues they’re facing.

02

Organise Club Officer Training (COT)

Club Officer Training is one of the most important events to take place in the District calendar. It is held twice a year. Many of the participants who become club officers have only been in Toastmasters for a short time.

The presenters at COT should be experienced and helpful. Toastmasters International provides training materials (including Powerpoint presentations), but it’s important to make these your own. Your experience can help to make or break the clubs within your Division.

03

District Officer Training

The Division Director attends District Officer Training twice a year. This helps you to learn about your role.

04

District Council Meeting

The Division Director also attends the District Council meeting. This is held twice a year.

05

Division Speech Contests

The Division Director organises the Division Speech Contests. It is important to find judges who are skilled and experienced. It is particularly important to find a good chief judge who can provide guidance to the other judges.

A good place to start is to find a copy of the previous Division Director’s Speech Contest Agenda, scripts, and determine a location for the contest. There is a budget for the contests. Division Directors are told how much this is at District Officer Training.

06

Become a Distinguished Division

Just as a Club or an Area can be Distinguished, so can a Division. The Division must have no net loss of clubs to be eligible. To qualify as a Distinguished Division, it must then have a certain percentage of Distinguished clubs. To be a President’s Distinguished Division, it must have a net growth of at least one club.
